Grade 6 Trip- Telunas
Grade 6 embarked on a trip to Telunas (Indonesia) where they had the most memorable experience of their life time. During the five-day camp, students were engaged with a myriad of activities such as individual rope obstacle course, team-building games on the beach, jungle trekking and jumping off from a waterfall. These helped students developed a strong sense of confidence and self-esteem as well as fostering development of personal and positive group relationships. The highlight was the opportunity for service learning, where they contributed to the local village community by planning and conducting Sports, Arts and Language classes to the children and building, brick-by-brick, a part of the school wall. On the last evening, the camp ended with self-made pizzas, songs and a bonfire by the beach. As the flame died off into the night, the fire in their heart kept burning passionately for Telunas.
Grade 7 Trip- Bali
With a very early start on Monday morning, 28 Grade 7 students along with Mr Walsh, Mr Balcer and Miss Allan began their journey to the Green Camp in Bali to start their Activity Week adventure. Our five day stay at the Green Camp was action packed from start to finish including activities such as Bamboo Tower Building, Organic Chocolate Making, Laughter Yoga, Subak Walk, Organic Composting and Raft Building. The overarching theme to each activity was sustainability and the students were introduced into different methods of becoming a sustainable society. As well as learning about the Green Camp’s environmental ethos, we also took part in many Balinese cultural activities. These included activities such as, Kecas-Kecus drumming and Wayang kulit (shadow-theatre) plays. The highlight of the trip for both students and staff has to be the traditional Balinese mepantigan mud wrestling- where there was laughter from start to finish!
Grade 8 Trip- Chiang Mai
Sawadika and Hello! The trip to Chiang Mai challenged our students in many ways: From overcoming fear of heights during the zip line to thinking about the conservation of the Asian elephant. Other activities the students were involved in were team building, Thai cooking, and learning about organic farming.
This trip also allowed new friendships to be made and existing friendships to be strengthened. Thank you to all our students for their enthusiasm, positive energy and hard work! The trip was a success!
Sok Sobay Trip
Through out the week, ISS students were required to be hardworking, patient, respectful and show initiative and responsibility – all done at all times.
The efforts of the 15 ISS students working with 58 children, of varying ages, from Sok Sabay culminated in an amazing evening of song, dance, drama and good fun.
Local Activity Week Trip
The Local Activity Week Programme brought students to places of interest, recreation and history as they explored the theme of Entertainment. Together, we visited museums such as the Singapore City Gallery, the Trick-Eye Museum and the Madame Tussauds Museum. A prominent landmark of Singapore, the Esplanade Theatre and Esplanade Concert Hall were explored behind the scenes. We wandered through downtown Singapore for a Monuments Tour where students experienced a historical and architectural adventure. At the Art-Science Museum, the students explored the Singapore Eye Exhibition, where they developed, perhaps, a different perspective and appreciation for photography. Our students then applied that knowledge during a photography workshop where they had the opportunity to take photos, apply effects to them and print out their best shot. The highlight of the week was team-building activities that enhanced the week’s engagement. Students played laser tag in a real war-time tunnel. Challenging climbs through obstacles took place at the MegaClimb and MegaZip at Sentosa. To start and complete the week, we contributed to the local community by participating in the Terry Fox Run and baking delicious cookies to be sold at KK Hospital to raise funds for the ‘I Give’ campaign, which benefits local needy families experiencing medical needs.
