Week Without Walls
During The Week Without Walls we Educate to Make a Difference by fostering cultural exchange and learning through a range of meaningful, practical and authentic experiences. Grade 9 students helped with the building of a new school in Borneo (pictured). Grade 10 students worked on a lot of community projects for a small village in Cambodia. Grade 11 students undertook their Group 4 (Sciences) project based work in mangrove swamps, beaches and villages in the Philippines. Some comments from the students on their trips:
"Planting mangroves was one of the hardest but funnest experiences about this trip so far. It was fun because we got to work with our friends as well as the local community/farmers. It was hard because it was hot, muddy, and we had to work against time to be able to plant 1200 mangroves before the tide came in. That, as well as the fact that we had to squat down in the mud." - Masaki and Carrie, Grade 11
"Our main task, for service, was to clean the environment that we were travelling through. The trail challenged us physically and forced many out of their comfort zone through rocky hills, across bamboo bridges, sliding in mud, and escalating between houses and farms. Action became one of the main focuses for today and translated from hiking into swimming and diving through clear blue waters. The phenomenal views obtained during this adventure gave us motivation to do our best to preserve and sustain this breathtaking island." - Shuren and Sarah, Grade 11
Thank you to all of the teachers who chaperoned the trips and to Mr. Taylor who coordinated everything.
