Activity Week Approaches for ISS Middle School Students!
We are all very excited in the Middle School for our upcoming Activity Week trips. For middle schoolers, it is important to spend some time building/ practicing interpersonal skills, developing a sense of place within the world community, adjusting to new environments, and getting to know others outside their peer group. Our Activity Week experiences provide excellent opportunities in these regards (areas) and allow students to challenge themselves socially, emotionally and physically in safe environments.
The highlights of each trip include visits to cultural landmarks, interacting with the local community, performing acts of community service, vigorous physical/ team building activities. Activity Week experiences are treasured memories for students who often come back from their travels with new and/or strenghtened friendships with their peers.
By now you should have received an Activity Week Handbook which outlines the itenerary and packing list for each trip. This year we are returning once again to some familiar venues in Telunas –Indonesia (grade 6) and Chiang Mai- Thailand (grade 8). Mr. Lebon, Ms. Shelley, and Ms. Eifler once again will lead our service oriented Activity Week trip for selected 7th and 8th grade students to the Sok Sobay children’s home in Phnom Penh- Cambodia. As the Middle School Principal, I’m happy to say that I’ll be joining the 7th grade Activity Week as ISS makes its first trip to the Green School in Bali.
In my absence, our Assistant Principal Ms. Grace will serve as the first point of contact for all parents/guardians should you need to urgently reach your child while they are away. If you have any questions about Activity Week trips, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher.
