Our Kampong Spirit

The thread that binds us all

Central to ISS is “Our Kampong Spirit,” embodying a commitment to community togetherness. “Kampong” means village in Malay, Singapore’s national language, and often romanticised as verdant, idyllic, and tight-knit.

FAMILY

A close-knit family

“We’re not just a school, we’re a family. Here at ISS, students and teachers learn and grow together. Whether it’s through cultural celebrations, sports competitions, or community service projects, we create bonds that go beyond the classroom, forging connections that last a lifetime.”

Petrina Krishnan, ISS teacher

Belonging

“It’s a feeling. It’s where you feel safe, where you belong, and where you’re surrounded by people who you care about. For me, that place is right here at ISS International School. It’s been my home for the past five years, and it’s a place I hold close to my heart. This is my Kampong.”

Ashley, Grade 12 Student

A Culture of Care: Our Kampong Experience

ISS is more than just a school. Each homeroom, known as a Kampong, instils a spirit of togetherness and respect among our students. It is a place where students are not just taught to excel academically but also to thrive as compassionate and empathetic individuals. In this warm and welcoming atmosphere, students are encouraged to embrace diversity and inclusivity, understanding that every member of the community has a unique perspective and value to offer.
